Standard Overlay

In the standard overlay design, the fronts of cabinet doors & drawers only partially cover the cabinet box face frame. Part of the face frame remains visible, with crown molding typically sitting on top of the cabinet box, aligned with the top edges of doors and drawers.

Aesthetic

  • Showcases a bit of frame detail, ideal for traditional and transitional décor.
  • Lower-cost option compared to full overlay designs.

Full Overlay

The full overlay design features doors and drawers that completely conceal the face frame of the cabinet box. The cabinet frame remains completely out of sight when the doors and drawers are closed, creating a sleek and modern flush surface. The door fronts also flush out the crown molding.

Aesthetic

  • Creates an illusion of a frameless cabinet design with clean lines and a seamless finish.
  • Popular for minimalistic and contemporary themes.
  • Slightly higher cost than standard overlay.

Flush Inset

In the flush inset style, the fronts of cabinet doors and drawers are integrated into the face frame of the cabinet box, set flush within the opening of the cabinet frame. The flush frame and stiles and rails are visible.

Aesthetic

  • Seamless and smooth surface, ideal for a clean & uncluttered look.
  • Highly customizable, suitable for both vintage and contemporary themes.
  • Costlier due to the requirement for high-quality materials and craftsmanship
  • Common in high-end kitchens, creating a timeless appearance.

Smallbone (Flush Inset with a Bead)

The Smallbone style mimics the flush inset design but adds a bead or decorative molding on the inside edge of the doors and drawers, right in the opening of the face frame.

Aesthetic

  • Traditional look with great attention to detail and superior craftsmanship.
  • Most expensive style, ideal for homeowners seeking exclusivity and elegance.

About Natural Wood Cabinets

Natural wood cabinets are constructed using high-quality, solid wood, known for its natural strength, durability, and beauty. The wood is typically sourced from hardwoods like poplar, white oak, maple, walnut, alder, mahogany, hickory or cherry, each with its own distinct grain pattern and color variation, adding character and uniqueness to every piece. Once selected, the wood is carefully cut, sanded, and finished to enhance its natural beauty, creating a smooth yet richly textured surface that brings warmth and elegance to any space.

Durability & Longevity

Real wood cabinets are much more durable and long-lasting compared to laminate. Solid wood can withstand years of use, making it a great investment for long-term projects.

Aesthetic Appeal

Wood offers a timeless, natural beauty that laminate can't replicate. The unique grain patterns, rich textures, and organic feel of wood provide an elegant, classic look that enhances the overall value of your home.

Customization & Refinishing

Real wood is easy to customize. You can paint or stain the cabinets to match changing styles or tastes. This flexibility is not possible with laminate, which cannot be refinished if damaged.

Increased Home Value

Solid wood cabinets can significantly increase the resale value of a home. Buyers often view real wood as a sign of quality, and it is generally more appealing in the market than laminate.

Eco-Friendly Option

Wood is a more environmentally friendly choice compared to laminate, which is made with synthetic materials. Wood is biodegradable and can be sustainably harvested, making it a greener option.

Repairable

Unlike laminate, which can peel or bubble and is nearly impossible to repair, solid wood can be sanded down and repaired if it gets scratched or damaged.

About Laminate Cabinets

Laminate cabinets are constructed using a strong synthetic material. This material, known as laminate, is made by bonding together layers of paper under extreme heat and pressure. Prior to bonding, the paper is usually impregnated with resin – a process that gives the material a wide range of benefits. To complete the process, manufacturers fuse the bonded layers onto a base material (e.g., plywood, MDF, or particleboard), giving the material a smooth and appealing surface.

Benefits of Laminate Cabinets

Durability

Laminate cabinets are renowned for their durability. The impregnation of paper with resin in the production process seals the paper fibers, making the material resistant to humidity, moisture, and water. This stability minimizes the risk of swelling or warping, maintaining its integrity despite external conditions.

Resistance to Wear and Tear

Laminate is also known for its excellent durability and ability to hold up well against everyday wear and tear. With proper care, it can maintain a great appearance for years to come.

Cost-Effective

While high-quality laminate can be more expensive than some wood options, it does not require painting and therefore offers a slight advantage in overall price. It provides a durable, low-maintenance option for your cabinetry needs.

Variety and Customization

Laminate comes in a variety of colors, textures, and patterns, making it highly customizable to your unique design style. The wide range of laminate finish options allows you to choose the best option available to suit your taste.
